Advanced estimate

Step 2 of 2 · Materials

Turn plaster area into cement and sand

Use the net surface area and average thickness to find the wet plaster volume, then split the dry ingredients into cement and sand. Your saved measurements and defaults are already in place; change anything that is different on this job.

The method, with an example

Formula

Wet volume = area × thickness. Dry volume = wet volume × dry factor, divided by the entered cement:sand parts.

Worked example

Ten square metres at 12 mm is 0.12 m³ wet plaster. With a 1.33 factor, dry ingredients total 0.1596 m³ before wastage.

What this result assumes

  • Flat area is net of openings and unplastered sections.
  • Measured jamb, head and applicable sill faces are added separately.
  • Thickness is an average across the measured surface.

What it does not cover

  • Uneven backgrounds and levelling can materially increase thickness and usage.

Questions that come up on site

Can I use a different plaster ratio?

Yes. Ratio and dry-volume factor are editable under assumptions so they can match the project specification.

Does this include wall putty?

No. Putty is a separate finish calculated from product coverage and surface area.
