Use a quick calculator when you need a quantity or rough cost without setting up a measured layout. Open Tools, choose the work and replace the example measurements. These tools do not create a layout, save an estimate or change your Advanced BOQ.

Only your explicitly saved rate preferences are kept for reuse. If you want a record of a calculation, copy its parchi or calculation link. For an independent saved estimate with a layout snapshot, use the measured estimate workflow.

Choose the right calculator

Start with the work you need to measure. Paint, primer, putty, tiling and skirting tools use the relevant surface or length. Material tools cover work such as bricklaying, plaster, concrete, steel weight and formwork. Specialist tools cover boundary walls, electrical wiring and plumbing.

Choose the budget calculator for an early area-based construction range. It answers a different question from a material calculator: an overall allowance does not tell you exactly how many bags, bricks or boxes to order.

For electrical, plumbing and structural work, use project specifications and qualified professionals for the design. Room counts, example wire allowances, pillar spacing and structural dimensions are quantity inputs; they do not establish a safe design.

Replace the example measurements

Read the unit beside each input. A tool may use feet for room dimensions and millimetres for tile or brick sizes. Some supplier rates, such as plumbing pipe rates, remain per metre in either display system.

Enter the measured area or dimensions for this job. Check deductions, repeated walls or floors, and material sizes. Expand Material details when you need to change coverage, coat count, waste, mix information or purchase units.

If you arrived from a guide or calculation link, its inputs are a starting scenario. Review them before calculating. Changing them here does not alter the original guide or somebody else’s saved records.

Calculate quantities before adding prices

You can leave optional rate fields blank and still calculate quantities. Entering 0 is different: it records a zero cost, which is appropriate only when the item is free or already included elsewhere.

All quick calculators show the example result on arrival and update as you type. The Calculate button moves you to the result or the first field that needs attention. If a field is highlighted, correct it to update the result. A missing rate can leave you with quantities or a partial cost; it is not evidence that the whole job is cheap.

Review the buying unit as well as the quantity. A box contains the entered number of tiles; a cement bag has the stated weight. Sand trolley equivalents depend on the assumed capacity and are not automatically an instruction to order that many full loads.

Use reference rates deliberately

Prefill Reference Rates fills empty rate fields with dated, illustrative INR references. It keeps rates you have already entered, including an explicit zero. It does not fetch live prices or request a dealer quote.

Use the small info icon beside the rate buttons to read the reference date and limitations. Edit every rate that differs from your written quote. Match the product, unit, installation scope and delivery conditions before relying on a cost.

The budget tool may already show a dated construction planning rate. Its info icon explains that starting reference and links to its source. Replace it with a rate for your location and agreed scope. A guide-specific finishing budget can use a narrower worked example, so do not treat every budget link as a whole-house estimate.

Save your own workspace rates

After checking the rates, choose Save these rates as my Workspace Default. This stores the current supported rates for that currency on this browser or device. Other saved rate preferences are kept.

For example, you can save a cement-bag rate in one calculator and reuse the matching cement rate in another tool. The application matches supported rate types and units; it does not copy an unrelated product price into every material field. Always review the loaded values against the quote for the current job.

Saving rate defaults does not save the current dimensions or calculation. It also does not populate saved-layout estimates with prices. Those estimates keep their own products and user-entered quotes.

Control automatic reference prefill

Automatically prefill reference rates is enabled by default for new visitors. Open Settings → Quick calculator rates to turn it off or on. An existing saved choice to turn it off is preserved.

Saved workspace rates take priority over reference rates. Automatic references fill the remaining eligible empty fields in INR; they do not convert prices into another currency. Rates you have already entered and shared calculation inputs are preserved.

Turn the option off to stop automatic reference filling on subsequent calculator use. Turning it off does not erase numbers already in an open calculation or remove your saved workspace rates. You can still choose the prefill button manually when you want an example.

Read and share the result

Check the quantities, cost lines and scope. The rate info buttons explain the reference date and limitations. Expand the calculation method to review the formula, assumptions and exclusions.

The material parchi summarises the current calculation. Choose English or हिन्दी / Hinglish, then preview the text before copying or opening the WhatsApp share action. The budget parchi describes a planning cost breakdown rather than a material order.

Copy calculation link creates a snapshot that someone can open and edit. It is separate from saving an estimate in your library. Review what the link and parchi contain before sharing them.

Reset or continue with a saved layout

Reset restores the calculator’s example inputs. It does not delete your saved layouts, estimates or workspace rate preferences. In the budget tool, Reset returns to the general construction budget example, including when you arrived from a narrower article example.

When you need to reuse rooms and walls for several jobs, follow the subtle saved-layout handoff or open Estimates and choose New estimate. Keep a workspace backup for saved work and rate preferences you want to retain.
