Turn specified bars into steel weight

Enter the bars already specified for the project. The calculator converts their diameter, length and quantity into weight without making structural choices. Your saved measurements and defaults are already in place; change anything that is different on this job.

The method, with an example

Formula

Unit weight in kg/m = diameter² ÷ 162. Total weight is unit weight multiplied by the entered or scheduled bar length.

Worked example

A 12 mm bar weighs about 0.889 kg/m. Ten 12 m bars therefore weigh about 106.67 kg before wastage.

What this result assumes

  • Diameter, spacing, cutting lengths and quantities come from structural information supplied by the user.
  • Purchase rounding is an editable kilogram increment.

What it does not cover

  • The tool does not choose safe diameters, spacing, laps, anchorage, cover or reinforcement layouts.
  • Spacing mode does not add laps, hooks, chairs or edge detailing.

Questions that come up on site

Can this choose reinforcement for a slab?

No. It only converts user-provided structural information into length and weight.

Can I work from a bar-bending schedule?

Yes. Schedule mode accepts diameter, cutting length and quantity for each mark.
