The method, with an example

Formula

Contact area = length × width × faces × quantity. Allowed area ÷ sheet area, rounded up, gives purchase sheets.

Worked example

A 4 m × 3 m soffit with one face has 12 m² contact area before wastage and sheet rounding.

What this result assumes

  • • The entered length and width describe one contact face.
  • • Sheet area is usable coverage before cuts.

What it does not cover

  • • Props, soldiers, ties, battens, release agents, reuse cycles and formwork design are not included.

Questions that come up on site

Is form-contact area the same as concrete volume?

No. Formwork is measured on surfaces touching the concrete, while concrete is measured by volume.

Does the sheet count allow for reuse?

No. The result is a gross planning count. Enter a suitable assumption or adjust the BOQ for the planned reuse cycle.
