House Electrical Wiring Calculator
Start with built-up area or room counts, then edit the wire and conduit allowances for a rough purchasing budget.
How this is worked out
Check the formulas, allowances and scope before buying.

From measurements to materials
Area mode: points = rounded-up(built-up ft² ÷ 100 × points per 100 ft²). Room mode: sum(room count × editable points per room), then round up.
Standard and Heavy are illustrative point-density presets, not wiring standards. Standard starts at 5 points/100 ft²; Heavy at 7.5. Room allowances are shown in Material details.
For each gauge: conductor metres = points × entered metres per point × (1 + allowance/100). Each allowance is the total single-core conductor length, including any phase, neutral and earth conductors allocated to that gauge; do not multiply by three again.
Coils = conductor metres ÷ entered coil length, rounded up independently for each gauge. Defaults are 90 m coils. Split by colour and circuit before purchasing; separate colour coils can increase the total.
Conduit metres = points × conduit allowance per point × (1 + allowance/100). Divide by pipe length and round up. Boards = points ÷ points per board, rounded up. The MCB count is your editable purchase allowance.
Wire cost uses whole coils, conduit cost uses whole pipes, board/MCB costs use counts, and labour uses the estimated points. Only entered rates are included.
Assumptions to check
Rough purchasing budget only. Area and room counts do not determine actual routes, wire gauges, load capacity, circuit count or breaker ratings. Have a qualified electrician supply the design and final takeoff.
The MCB allowance does not specify a safe circuit schedule or protective arrangement. Distribution board enclosure, RCCB/RCBO, earthing system, mains/service cable, fittings, chasing, testing, fixtures and appliances are excluded unless explicitly included in your entered rates.
